Don’t you hate it when people jump to the wrong conclusions? Take winter holiday breaks for example. Just because you want to get away for a week or two during the dark winter months doesn’t automatically mean that you will be spending it going up and down an ice cold ski slope in deepest Austria, does it?
But what else is there to do during winter on the continent or beyond? Well, if you want to avoid the slopes and instead just enjoy a relaxing break, try one of these ideas for size:
Fuerteventura
If you are going to buck the trend you might as well do it in style, and in Fuerteventura you can do just that. You’ll be able to have the Christmas or New Year break of a lifetime as the island enjoys warm weather while the rest of us freeze throughout the winter months back home. So break out the shorts, invest in a bikini, pack the Christmas presents and enjoy a well earned break in the sun without worrying about last gasp Christmas shopping or packed high streets.
New York
There are few cities in the world which nearly everybody wants to visit at least once in their life; however New York is such a place. Whilst the weather may be similar to that back home in the UK, it is a city that comes alive as the holiday season comes and goes. Visit the Empire State building, see a show on Broadway; shop until you drop in Macy’s. There is so much fun to be had and what’s more, because there are plenty of affordable New York city break options now available, it is nowhere near as expensive as it used to be. A winter holiday does not only mean spending all week by the beach – it is the perfect time to see another city.
Prague
Just because you aren’t a skier doesn’t mean that you should miss out on the snow this year. If you love nothing better than trudging through a light coating of snow and then warming yourself up with a warm glass of mauled wine in the evening, consider a break in Prague. The city is perhaps at its prettiest during the winter months and can look like it has come straight out of a fairytale scene. You won’t come back with a tan, but you will come back with a digital camera full of photos that will warm you up as the British winter sets in around you upon your return.
Agree with these choices? Why not suggest a few more ideas for the perfect winter holiday destinations without the skis below?
