The 3 Best Holiday Resorts for Watching Sport

World cup bar

Sometimes going to the pub or staying at home to watch the big game can be just as good as actually going to the match – it normally is a lot cheaper at the very least! But when abroad, it can be difficult to find a place to watch your favourite sport whilst sampling local beer and good old fashioned pub grub. If finding the best sports bar in town is the first thing you do when on a cheap holiday abroad, try booking a holiday to one of these resorts in 2012:

Puerto Del Carmen, Lanzarote

The Canaries, which are situated just to the west of Africa and are officially part of Spain, have for many decades been very popular with UK tourists and as a result, parts of these islands have been created to fit the exact needs of their clientele. Case and point: Puerto Del Carmen. This is the most popular resort in Lanzarote and certainly the liveliest. The resort is home to 40 Irish and Celtic bars and English pubs – alongside traditional Spanish bars – meaning if a pint, footy on the TV and good food are central to your enjoyment you’ll love it here.

Istanbul, Turkey

Istanbul is one of the world’s most fascinating cities. There is thousands of year’s worth of history to be explored along with Turkish baths which you can bathe and relax in too! But if you have accidently booked your Turkey holiday without taking into consideration the 2012 Olympics or Euro 2012, fear not, as Istanbul is a city which simply loves its sport. After all it is home to Galatasary Football Club, whose fans are about as passionate as they get. There are bars, cafes, restaurants and pubs littered all over the city so you will be able to spend a few hours watching the box even if you have your young family in tow!

Algarve, Portugal

Whilst Lisbon is the home to two major giants of European football, if you want a sun worshipping holiday with plenty of options on the sport front, the Algarve is the one area of Portugal that takes some beating. Harry’s Bar in Carvoeiro sets the tone of what to expect – an air conditioned interior, outdoor terracing, wide range selection of drinks and TV’s showing all sports under the sun – quite literally! The Algarve is marketed towards British and German tourists so sport friendly establishments are therefore a must!
