Although the idea of spending 7 or more days on a sun lounger by one of the resort pools, only getting up to eat in your choice of restaurant or grab a cocktail, sounds incredible. Sometimes you do get the urge to get out of the resort and sample an excursion or two. Sharm El Sheikh is no exception to the rule and has plenty of excursions on offer for all tastes and all budgets.
Cairo Tour
The most popular Sharm El Sheikh excursion is to spend a day visiting Cairo and the iconic Egyptian sites, the Sphinx and the Pyramids. Although you can get to Cairo a little quicker by flying you can also go by bus which is a much cheaper option. At around £40 per head it’s a trip that you really cannot miss. Not only do you get to experience the infamous ancient sites, you also get lunch on the River Nile and the chance to haggle for some bargains in the Cairo bazaars.
Snorkeling Ras Mohammed National Park
You cannot visit the Red Sea and not experience what is going on under those gorgeous waters. The Ras Mohammed National Park is world renowned with an eclectic mix of marine life. If you don’t fancy going all out diving then a snorkeling trip is a must and also one of the cheapest options for Sharm El Sheikh excursion. Most excursions cost around £25pp (less for kids) and include transportation, equipment and a pretty nice lunch.
Camel Rides
It’s £20 or so that everyone should pay in their lifetimes to experience the bizarre feeling of riding a camel. I won’t lie, it’s not always pleasant and it certainly isn’t glamorous but you just have to experience it to believe it. It is also a really good laugh! For a cheap and cheerful afternoon out of the resort, camel riding is the perfect Sharm El Sheikh excursion.
Excursion to Petra by boat
Petra was named by the BBC as one of the 40 places to visit before you die, so this excursion is really quite special. It is one of the more expensive Sharm El Sheikh excursion at around £200 but you do get to explore the ancient city of Petra, a once in a lifetime experience.
Argo Desert Safari
Considering you are staying so close to the Egyptian desert there is no real reason why you can’t go and see more of it and pump a little adrenaline at the same time! The 4×4 Argo Safari is just pure good fun as you fly through the desert sand and explore the valleys and Sinai mountains. You never know, after a few days lazing by the pool you may fancy an activity that will get your heart racing! Excursions cost around £40pp.
Mount Sinai
See the sunrise over the desert and Red Sea from the top of Mount Sinai before heading for breakfast. Sounds lovely, except you do have to spend your night climbing the mountain! However, it’s not as bad as it sounds and is a very popular excursion in Sharm El Sheikh. There are 700 steps to make your way up before you can relax at the summit but it is well worth the effort. For those unable to make the 700 steps it is possible to get a camel to do the leg work for you. A hike up Mount Sinai may not sound like much fun but it is £25 well spent.
Abu Galum and Blue Hole Safari
A Sharm El Sheikh excursion with a difference. If you fancy treating yourself to a day out experiencing the bohemian city of Dahab as well as learning about the Bedouin lifestyle, the protected Abu Galum ecosystem, and snorkelling away from the crowds in the Gulf of Aqaba, then spend £35 on this excursion. You will not be disappointed.
Enjoy you Sharm El Sheikh excursion, whichever one you may choose! If you have tried any of these excursions we would love to hear how you got on!
