Cheap Places to Shop in New York City
Any visitor to New York will indulge in a spot of shopping and then there are those of us who travel to New York for the sole purpose of shopping. Either way, there are those famous shops we all know to head towards – Saks, Bloomingdales, Macy’s, Bergdorf Goodman and, of course, the window of Tiffany & Co. There is often a small factor that makes these trips a little bitter sweet, they aren’t cheap places to shop. No need to panic though, there are some cheap places to shop in New York City.
Green Flea Market. Found in Manhattan on a Sunday from 10am to 5.30pm you can trawl the market place for antiques, collectibles, vintage clothing and unique jewellery. The Green Flea Market isn’t just for adventurous fashionista’s, take the family along to experience the buzz and search for some unique and eclectic goods.
Chinatown. Not only can you get some good food in Chinatown, there are cheap stalls to shop at too and they aren’t all full of red Chinese lanterns and golden cats who wave. In Chinatown you can pick up cheap handbags, sunglasses, watches and jewellry and you are even a couple of blocks away from Soho if you fancy combining a bit of cheaper shopping with more upmarket shops.
Woodbury Common. A shopping outlet village like you have never seen before. If you name a brand, it will be here, the place is huge with 220 outlet stores available for you to browse. Just a short bus ride outside of New York City (there is a bus that will pick up from your hotel) you will spend the day shopping without rinsing your budget as all the designer names are here but with huge discounts and savings.
Loehmanns. If you don’t have the time to take a day out to Woodbury Common outlet village then head to Loehmanns – it’s close to Central Park so only a small detour. At Loehmanns you can get designer brands at 30% – 65% less, so have a look through Macy’s and then head to Loehmanns to recreate that outfit at a fraction of the cost.
H & M. Even though you probably have a H & M on your own high street, the New York City store is a must for cheap shopping. It’s huge and it can be carnage in the sales but if you want cheap then cheap you shall find.
All the big department stores and high street brands have sales consistently throughout the year so worth keeping an eye out. The obvious sales in January are popular but be prepared to take on a lot of other like-minded shoppers in your bid for the bargain. Do you have any top stores in New York City where you are guaranteed to find a bargain? If you know of any cheap places to shop in New York City then why not let us know!
